Exam Timetable

Examinations are generally held in State capital cities around Australia.

Locations and start/finish times of examinations will be provided upon confirmation of registration.

International Welding Inspector – Basic (IWI B)

  • 27  February 2019

International Welding Specialist (IWS)

  • 27  February 2019

Weld Australia Welding Supervisor (AS 1796 Cert 10 and AS 2214)

  • 27  February 2019

International Welding Engineer (IWE)

  • Module 1 (EA1): 11 February 2019
  • Module 2 (EA2): 13 May 2019

International Welding Technologist (IWT)

  • Module 1 (TA1): 11 February 2019
  • Module 2 (TA2): 13 May 2019

Examinations will also be held on other dates in 2019 – keep an eye on Weld Connect or the Weld Australia website for more details.

Exam applications must be submitted on-line through the WeldQ system.  Please log-in to your WeldQ profile at https://wtia.weldq.com/applicant/login using your WeldQ ID.

If you have been issued with qualifications or certifications by Weld Australia or WTIA in the past a WeldQ account has been created for you with your own unique WeldQ ID. If you do not know your WeldQ ID, please email qnc@weldaustralia.com.au.

Exam applications must be submitted no later than 6 weeks prior to the exam date.

Exam Papers and Duration

International Welding Specialist (IWS)

Paper SA1 – Welding Processes and Equipment. Duration: 1 hour 5 minutes

Paper SA2 – Materials and their Behaviour Welding. Duration: 1 hour 5 minutes

Paper SA3 – Construction and Design. Duration: 1 hour 5 minutes

Paper SA4 – Fabrication and Application Engineering. Duration: 1 hour 5 minutes

Weld Australia Welding Supervisor (AS 1796 Cert 10 and AS 2214)

Paper A – Theory (common for B1 and B2) [Not required if sitting IWS exams] Duration: 3 hours 15 minutes

Paper B1 (AS 1796 Cert 10) – Codes and Specifications – Boilers & Pressure Vessels. Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes

Paper B2 (AS 2214) – Codes and Specifications – Steel Structures. Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes

Welding Inspectors

IWI-B: consists of up to 3 exams

Exam Paper B5 – Welding Inspection I. Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes

Exam Paper C3 – Practical and Oral. Duration: 3 hours 5 minutes

Exam Paper WTB – Welding Technology I. Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes

IWI-S: consists of up to 4 exams held over a 2 day period

Day 1

Exam Paper B6 – Welding Inspection II. Duration: 2 hours 45 minutes                    

Exam Paper WTS – Welding Technology II. Duration: 2 hours 45 minutes                      

Day 2

Paper C3 – IWI B Practical and Oral. Duration: 3 hours 5 minutes

Paper C5 – IWI S Practical and Oral. Duration: 3 hours 5 minutes
