Sasanka was the first Australian to achieve certification of his International Welding Engineer (IWE) qualification. Sasanka joined Weld Australia (formerly known as the WTIA) in 1998, and as a Technology Manager he provides welding and engineering solutions to Weld Australia Member companies and to industry.
He joined Weld Australia in 1998 and holds the degree of Master in Materials Welding and Joining from the University of Wollongong as well as Master in Production Engineering and a Graduate in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
He has extensive experience in fabrication and welding, particularly in the field of ship building, railway wagons, steel plant equipment, boilers, pressure vessels, construction and mining equipment. Before joining Weld Australia he had 25 years of welding experience working with world leaders such as Babcock and Wilcox, Marion Dresser, Komatsu and Ti–Fab (USA) in India and Indonesia prior to his arrival in Australia. He has a very successful track record in delivering large projects in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and China.
Sasanka also serves on two Standards Australia Committees, WD 002 on welding consumables and WD 003 for structural welding and is a Lead Auditor for Company Certification to IIW MCS ISO 3834.
